How are footballing superstars helping in the fight against coronavirus?

The coronavirus has been affecting one and all. Footballers, celebrities, and the common people all have been affected with the lockdown imposed due to the coronavirus. 

But footballers who are privileged are helping out in the fight against Covid-19.

Here is how some footballers are playing their part in the fight against the deadly virus.

Cristiano Ronaldo

Ronaldo shifted to his native in Madeira in Portugal after a couple of Juventus stars tested positive for coronavirus. He stayed put in his villa with his family. 

But he made sure he helped in the fight against coronavirus. He and his agent Jorge Mendes made a combined donation of £ 1 million to hospitals in Portugal. The donation will be used to fund medical equipment, beds to treat patients suffering from the virus. 

Earlier, it was rumored that he has turned his hotels into coronavirus treatment centers, but it turned out to be a hoax.

Lionel Messi

Lionel Messi has been leading the race of footballers who are donating money in the fight against coronavirus. Messi has donated € 1 million in the fight against coronavirus. 

The money was donated to Barcelona's Hospital Clinic. He also took an effort to lead the awareness about coronavirus. As Barca's captain, he also took the lead in accepting a 70% pay cut at Barca.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic

AC Milan star Zlatan Ibrahimovic was among the first football stars to kickstart a fundraiser campaign in the mission to fight coronavirus. He set up an online fundraiser. 

He also pledged to contribute €100,000 to the cause. He also urged his teammates, and fellow footballers, to donate generously to the cause. He said if the virus does not go to him, he will go to the virus.

Sadio Mane

The Liverpool star has been a champion of social causes in his native in Senegal. He donated £41,000 to help fight the battle against coronavirus. 

He also took to social media to urge his countrymen to take the matter seriously. He has also supported World Health Organisation’s ‘#SafeHands’ initiative. It promotes regular handwashing as part of precautions against the spread of coronavirus.

Toby Alderweireld

Spurs center-back Toby Alderweireld came up with a unique way to help people suffering from coronavirus fight loneliness when they would have to undergo compulsory self-isolation. 

He has donated tablets so that people who are in the hospital fighting the disease can be in touch with their loved ones, friends, and family members and can pass through these testing times.
