Tottenham Hotspur move ahead of Chelsea to become London’s richest club
Tottenham Hotspur are now the richest football club in London as per the revenue data released by Deloitte Football Money League.
It’s a table which is released every year and ranks the top 20 football clubs around the world in terms of their total revenue per year.
Spurs were ahead of their arch rivals Arsenal in the table released last year as well, but they were behind Chelsea, who were occupying the no. 8 position in the table. However, the Blues have now lost their spot to Tottenham.
With Tottenham making it to the final of the Champions League and shifting to the new stadium, there has been a whopping growth in their revenue. Their total revenue in 2019 has been calculated as 521.1 million Euros.
In all likelihood, Tottenham’s revenue will increase even further. Their match-day revenue next season might go over a hundred million Pounds.
There has been an increment in Arsenal's revenue as well, but it’s only of one percent which is not enough to help them overtake the likes of Tottenham and Chelsea. They are still at no. 11 in the table.
The Gunners were one of the finalists in the Europa League 2018-19 which earned the club a decent amount of money, but they failed to finish in top 4 in the Premier League and couldn’t earn a Champions League spot which blocked a major source of revenue to the club.
Arsenal’s total revenue in 2019 has been calculated as 445.6 million Euros. Their revenue might increase significantly in 2021 though, as they have cracked a lucrative deal with Adidas.
Meanwhile, another London club West Ham United have seen their match-day revenue go up by 11 percent. The Hammers are now at the 18th position in Deloitte Football Money League.
Barcelona are the richest club in the world with the total revenue of 840.8 million Euros, while Manchester United are the richest in England with the total revenue of 711.5 million Euros.
