UEFA could change the venue for the UCL final amidst the Ukraine-Russia crisis

UEFA are planning to move the 2022 Champions League final to another location amidst the escalating tension between Ukraine and Russia. 

Foreign Secretary Liz Truss has insisted that any English club reaches in Champions League final should boycott it if held in St Petersburg, Russia.

Russia has sent their troops to two rebel-held regions of Ukraine, as they are planning to invade Ukraine.

However, Putin has denied those accusations and although explosions were heard in major Ukrainian cities, Russia finally unleashed their forces during pre-dawn.

UK Prime Minister has stated, "no chance of holding football tournaments in a Russia that invades sovereign countries".

The Champions League final was to be held at Gazprom Arena in St Petersburg on 28 May 2022. 

With four Premier League teams contesting in the competition i.e Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester United and Manchester City, the chances of an English side reaching the final are very high.

Many FA authorities have given their opinion, as they want the final to move to another country.

Few players have come out and offered their support to Ukraine. Manchester City defender Oleksandr Zinchenko wrote on Instagram on Tuesday that "no-one will ever be able to appropriate" Ukraine.

Former UEFA vice-president and Irish FA honorary life president Jim Boyce have said.

"I have absolutely no doubt that they should withdraw the Champions League final from Russia,"

"I'm someone who believes that politics and sport really shouldn't mix but, at the end of the day, this situation in Russia is just intolerable".

UEFA's body will hold their decision and wait for the situation to unfold, then they will proceed with their final decision. However, the rumours say they might switch to Wembley as the venue for the 2022 Champions League final.
