Grizzlies bow down to the Golden State Warriors

The Grizzlies' luck against playoff teams finally ran out against Golden State Warriors, the two-time defending NBA champions.

A hot shooting night from Kevin Durant lifted the Golden State Warriors to a 118-103 victory over the Grizzlies in front of a sold-out crowd of 17,794 on Wednesday night at FedExForum.

Durant hit 12 of 13 shots on his way to 28 points, tying teammate Stephen Curry for the game-high.

For the Grizzlies (30-45), the loss ended a five-game winning streak against teams in the playoff picture. In that span, Memphis also lost to four teams with records below .500.

The Grizzlies entered the night tied for ninth from the bottom in the NBA standings, which is a desirable finishing spot for the team as it seeks to convey a top-eight protected draft pick owed to the Boston Celtics.

Jonas Valanciunas scored 14 points on 7-of-10 shooting and picked up a technical foul for complaining about the officiating. And that was just his first quarter.

Foul trouble derailed Valanciunas' night, but he still managed to lead the Grizzlies with 27 points and 13 rebounds for his eighth game with at least 20 points and 10 rebounds since arriving in Memphis. He attempted a career-high 25 shots.

Grizzlies point guard Mike Conley (11) passed Marc Gasol as the franchise's all-time scorer during Wednesday's game. 

Mike Conley regained his crown as the franchise's all-time leading scorer in the second quarter. In the process, he joined LeBron James and Reggie Miller as the only players in NBA history to lead a franchise in points, games played, assists, steals and 3-pointers.

Justin Holiday hit a pull-up 3-pointer from 39 feet away to beat the first-quarter buzzer and give the Grizzlies a 37-31 lead. The shot capped a quarter in which Holiday tied a franchise-record with four steals.

The Grizzlies begin a four-game trip out West by playing at the Suns in the third and final meeting between the teams. The season series is tied 1-1.
