Santi Cazorla urges Arsenal to sign teammate Pau Torres

Santi Cazorla might have left Arsenal, but he still remains close to the north London giants. He has proven that yet again by contacting manager Unai emery and urging him to sign in-form Villareal defender and his team-mate Pau Torres. 

Throughout his career, Cazorla has been an excellent professional and a player who has always been a fan favourite. He was one of the most popular players during his stint at Arsenal and has now showed that he still cares for the Gunners. The whole Arsenal defence is a mess right now and he also recognizes that. 

The 34-year-old, a two-time European Championship winner with Spain enjoyed a glittering spell in north London prior to leaving in the summer of 2018. He has since returned to full fitness and is back in Spain national colours as well with some eye catching performances. 

The Spaniard has largely been impressed by his team-mate Pau Torres and believes that he has what it takes to improve the leaky defence of his former team. Due to this, he has urged Emery to sign the 22-year-old. 

Torres spent the previous season out on loan with Malaga, scoring once in 40 appearances across all competitions. He has cemented his spot in Villarreal's starting XI and has played every minute of their La Liga season so far. 

The defender has impressed for Villarreal this season, helping them to ninth place in the La Liga table. The Gunners reportedly expressed their interest in securing the signature of the 22-year-old star ahead of the summer. It is believed that Torres has a release clause of in-between £44m and £65m - but Arsenal want to strike a deal for less. 

However, they are not the only club interested in securing the signature of the highly rated Spaniard. Arsenal’s London rivals Chelsea are also keen on strengthening their defence, once their transfer ban ends. 

Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City have also inquired about the player, as they are struggling defensively with injuries to key man Aymeric Laporte and John Stones. The Citizens started the season with one defender short following the departure of club legend and long-term skipper Vincent Kompany and it has hurt them from the very start of the current campaign.
