Chelsea striker furious with Italian Giants

World Cup winner with France Olivier Giroud is fuming with Serie A giants Inter Milan after the Italian side pulled out of a deal to sign the Frenchman earlier this week.

The 33-year-old was desperate to leave Chelsea in search of regular playing time as he genuinely fears of missing out on the Didier Demchamps' squad for the Euro 2020.

The forward was told by the France boss that he will need to be playing regularly to warrant a place in the national team and Giroud was desperate to do just that.

The French international missed out on a move as Inter turned their attentions towards Ashley Young and Christian Eriksen.

Reports claim that Giroud was first contacted by the Italian club in December and held talks for weeks before reaching an agreement on a deal.

But Antonio Conte's side reportedly pulled the plug on talks late in the window claiming that they could not afford to sign the Frenchman after the signing of Christian Eriksen.

Chelsea would have allowed Giroud to join their rivals Tottenham as well but only if they landed Dries Mertens from Napoli. However, they could neither bring the Belgian ace meaning Giroud has to stay at Stamford Bridge until his contract expires in the summer.

The Blues tried to land the Napoli superstar in a last-gasp deal but could not persuade him to make the switch.

Mertens is out of contract in the summer and the Serie A outfit were looking to cash in as well but the Belgian did not want to leave.

Mertens is just four goals short of being Napoli's all-time leading goalscorer and wants to overtake club legend and former teammate Marek Hamsik. In order to fulfil his personal ambitions, he decided to stay at the Naples club despite interest from inside and outside Italy.

Chelsea manager Frank Lampard, however, could reward Giroud for his patience with the club and could hand him more opportunities in the remainder of the season.
