Chelsea and Atletico Madrid: Form Guide

Chelsea have been very disciplined since Thomas Tuchel arrived, and the importance of performing in every minute of every game is what Tuchel is trying to instill in this Chelsea squad.

Looking at Chelsea's last five games in all competitions on paper, Chelsea have faced some tough opponents and have yet been unbeaten in all these five matches.

What comes like a cherry on top is that they have a victory against Atletico in the first leg, followed by a draw against Manchester United, and then back-to-back victories against the Merseysiders Liverpool and Everton.

Chelsea's home form in this season's Champions League hasn't been their best, while the same can be said for the visitor's away form.

Atletico Madrid have just a couple of wins out of their last six games, losing two, while the rest have been drawn. They are still at the apex of the league table but recently dropped points have allowed Real Madrid and Barcelona to cut the gap.

Simeone and co still have enough to fight for and the goal advantage to Chelsea can still not be a problem if his side gets on the scoresheet early in the game.

Chelsea vs Atletico Madrid: Team News

Mason Mount and Jorginho are out of contention due to bookings in the first leg, the aftermath of which causes them to miss the important second leg. Mateo Kovacic and N'Golo Kante are available. Hakim Ziyech is expected to start too but he will have to play it safe as another booking would suspend him too if Chelsea progress.

Tammy Abraham is a doubt too, while Thiago Silva may still not get a chance, considering the budding partnership of the Chelsea back-three.

For Atletico Madrid, Keiran Trippier is set to return. Saul Niguez and Joao Felix are both expected to start.

Chelsea vs Atletico Madrid: Prediction

Chelsea's defense has been robust until now but this could be their first real challenge under Tuchel. Atletico Madrid have a game to chase and that can lead to some unforced errors for the Blues.

Chelsea would try to take the control of the game because Simeone's Atletico Madrid are known to stick to their plans until the very end, and they often execute what is asked of them.
