Kevin De Bruyne breaks his silence over Manchester City future

From the day it was announced by the Court of Arbitration for Sports that Manchester City will be banned for the next two seasons in the Champions League for breaching Financial Fair Play regulations, questions surfaced whether or not the coach and the top players would still remain with the club.

Pep Guardiola had made it clear very soon that he will be with the club despite the ban and may even extend if the Citizens wish to. Then it was the players who had to share their thoughts on their future with the club but there were barely any clear statements regarding it.

After a while, it was Raheem Sterling who came forward and openly spoke that he will remain at the club despite the consequences. Now, City’s midfield star Kevin De Bruyne has finally broken his silence and claimed that he is committed to the club even if the ban is upheld.

The club had appealed and are in the process against it and as per reports, the club will hear the Court of Arbitration for Sport’s decision on Monday morning. If the ban is upheld, De Bruyne will be 31-years-old when he next plays in the UCL, the club football’s most prestigious competition.

However, as per the Daily Mail, the Belgian looks firm with his decision to staying and will not force a move elsewhere. Manchester City are expected to open up talks regarding a new contract with the midfielder soon even though he has three good years left to run it out.

As far as football is concerned, Pep Guardiola’s men are still hunting for their first UCL title and have a very fine but crucial lead against Zinedine Zidane’s Real Madrid, who have lifted the trophy 13 times already.

UEFA recently confirmed that the fixture will take place at the Etihad and not at a neutral venue in Portugal due to the travel restrictions in place as a result of the COVID-19. A win against Real will make them eligible to face either Juventus or Lyon in the quarter-finals and Bayern Munich or Barcelona later on in the semis.
