Captain Furious, Memphis Depay to Marcelo's rescue!

Memphis Depay, who played a very crucial role in getting Olympique Lyon through the group stage of the UEFA Champions League, was left fuming after the match when he saw that his own club’s fans were against one of Lyon’s defenders, Marcelo.

The Champions League clash witnessed an ugly end to the game against RB Leipzig after a commendable second-half comeback from Lyon. 

Houssem Aouar and Memphis Depay scored the two goals in helping Lyon edge through to the Champions League’s last 16.

The incident in question, began with an individual, who crossed the advertising hoarding and unfurled a flag which depicted a donkey with a message that read, “Marcelo leave the club.” 

The Lyon captain then ran towards the fan and tried to rip the banner, closely followed by his team-mate, Jason Denayer who restrained him.

In an emotional post-match interview, he told the media that it is extremely difficult to see or know that someone on the team is having a problem with the fans and that he is not supported. 

The winger was visibly angry with this act by the home fans and told the media that the team did everything they could.

The ex-Manchester United player also showed concerns over his extreme behaviour and reminded himself of how mature and calm he has become as a person. 

The Lyon captain also addressed the fact that the fans are nobody to comment on someone’s personal life and family and that there should be boundaries for everything.

The team could not celebrate with the fans because of the whole atmosphere shift. Some players and members of the staff were also spat on, which was something unexpected.

Depay got full support from the Lyon owner, Jean-Michel Aulas, who has vowed to take sanctions. Further, he added how important it was for the team to qualify and that’s where the team should focus.
