El Clasico comes under scrutiny again: will it have to be postponed again?

Real Madrid and Barcelona were supposed to play at Camp Nou on 26th October, but protests pertaining to the Catalan independence made it problematic for the game to be played on that day, hence rescheduling the game to 18th December.

The game has again come into headlines and doubts have increased as a pro-Catalan independence group known as ‘Tsunami Democratic’ planned to come up with a large scale protest during the fixture, which again concerns the safety of the players.

Barcelona club president Josep Maria Bartomeu has claimed that the El Clasico will not be postponed again, after the date of the game being postponed once. Bartomeu said, "It will be played, the Clasico will be played, it will not be postponed again,” as reported by Mundo Deportivo.

“It is everyone’s responsibility to ensure that the game is played, we know that we are experiencing a complex social and political that it is compatible with a football game being played.” He added. Bartomeu still supported or in other words told in an indirect way that it may support the independence cause but any opposition should not cause tantrums in the game.

The Barcelona president also told that the club’s stadium has been a space of free expression and everyone is entitled to have their own opinion. He said that the club will carry on with the tradition of winning sportsmanship and support of the fans. 

Bartomeu made assurances that Real Madrid are safe to travel but the media outlet, El Chiringuito are reporting that the club still faces significant concerns. The media outlet also claimed that the Los Blancos will not step down from the plan, if they do not get the guaranteed security. 

El Clasico has been and still is a match with a great history with viewers and fans all around the world. It was once the battle of Cristiano Ronaldo fans against the Lionel Messi fans until the Portugal captain left for Juventus.
