Euro 2020: England players face racist abuse as they top Group A
The Three lions produced a fine attacking display in a 6-0 win over Bulgaria in their Euro 2020 Qualifier. The thumping victory though, was marred by controversy as racist chants were targeted against English players of African origin.
Raheem Sterling, Tyrone Mings and Marcus Rashford were all subjected to the abuse by the Bulgarian supporters. In addition to this disgusting act, Nazi gestures were also shown in what is said to be one of the most sickening moments that happened on a football field.
As a result of this heinous deed by the home crowd, the match was stopped by the referee twice in the first-half. But the England team members were determined to play ahead with more vigour and ferocity as they outclassed the opposition with their attacking caliber.
Liverpool midfielder Jordan Henderson praised his teammates for their character on the pitch and took a moment to post a tweet on social media thanking for the support that the team received.
"Absolutely disgusted to have witnessed the behaviour of some of the crowd tonight but so proud of every single one of our players and staff. We stand together. Thanks to all of our travelling fans for your support", he tweeted.
Marcus Rashford scored the first goal in the seventh minute as he twisted and turned around two defenders and drove the ball into the top left corner of the net from an incredibly tight angle.
Ross Barkley was on the top of his form as he scored a brace. Manchester city star Raheem sterling also got on the score-sheet twice and finally Skipper Harry Kane sealed off the match with a goal in the 84th minute.
