A FIFA clause may let Neymar leave PSG this summer for FC Barcelona

Paris Saint-Germain are confident that the coronavirus outbreak will make it nearly impossible for either Neymar or Kylian Mbappe to leave the club this summer. Real Madrid have had their eyes on Mbappe for a long time, although their plan has always been to wait another year before even trying to sign him but Neymar is thought to be one of Barcelona’s top priorities this summer.

Camp Nou has been waiting for a long time to see Neymar back in home colors and as per L’Equipe’s claim, the already complicated transfer has become a whole lot harder because of the pandemic. 

With Ligue 1 likely to finish in August, Barcelona will fail to sign the Brazilian as PSG will have another reason to keep him as the Catalan club's financial situation has left them fearing that they might not be able to afford a deal.

However, a surprising fact is that PSG are open to allowing Neymar leave but a report mentions a huge release clause of €180 million which would lead to FIFA forcing the transfer to go through. Mundo Deportivo have previously revealed the existence of such a clause, which is expected to be in every professional player’s contract who signs before their 28th birthday.

FIFA’s ‘protection period’ is thought to ensure that a player represents a club for at least three seasons with a club before trying to force an exit and once this period is over, the player has the right to leave the club if another side pays a pre-agreed compensation fee.

Barcelona could agree to use this in their favor and sign Neymar and it is also reported that PSG are also ready to receive the money in installments rather than a lump sum. Barcelona have once declined to pay such a huge fee for their ex-player but that time PSG wanted the money upfront unlike this time, where the idea of deferring payments has made the deal affordable.
