Leroy Sane joins Bayern Munich and takes the number 10 jersey
Leroy Sane has returned to Bundesliga with champions Bayern Munich in a high-profile move from Manchester City.
The 24-year-old has agreed to a five-year contract with the German giants, confirming the news on Friday. The German winger will cost €49 million (£44.5 million), rising to €60 million (£54.5 million) in the future.
With the Citizens, Sane was a two-time Premier League champion and one time FA Cup winner. He made 135 appearances and was named the PFA Young Player of the year award at the end of 2017-18 season.
Bayern Muich Sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic expressed his pleasure in a statement released on the club’s official website. It read,
“We’re delighted Leroy is to be a Bayern Munich player. Leroy is a difference-maker and will strengthen our team with his quality. With Serge Gnabry, Kingsley Coman and Leroy, we’re now even better equipped at a very high level in the wide positions that are important for our game.”
He also thanked Manchester City for being cordial in the negotiations and finally thanked the Bayern president and chairman of the supervisory board, Herbert Hainer, who played a crucial role in making the transfer happen.
Bayern CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said, “We’re happy to welcome Leroy Sane to FC Bayern. He is an outstanding player who has proven his qualities over the past few years, especially in the national team. Our goal is to gather the best German players at FC Bayern and the signing of Leroy emphasizes this goal.”
Sane also shared his excitement and wrote a few words about his new team. He said, “FC Bayern is a great club with big goals and these goals suit me as well. I’m looking forward to the new challenge and can’t wait to train with the team. I know Hansi Flick from the U21 national team, we had a very good relationship there. I want to win as many trophies as possible with Bayern and the Champions League is a top priority.”
