Liverpool to break club transfer record for German wonderkid

Premier League leaders Liverpool are reportedly set to smash their club transfer record with a £107 million swoop for Bayer Leverkusen wonderkid, Kai Havertz. The German international is regarded as one of the brightest talents in world football at the moment and a host of clubs across Europe have been linked with the youngster. Liverpool, however, seem to be in pole position to land Havertz.

The Leverkusen star has been linked with clubs like Bayern Munich, Barcelona, Real Madrid, Manchester City, Manchester United but Liverpool are believed to be leading the race and are set to test Bayer Leverkusen's resolve with a huge £107 million bid.

The 20-year old Havertz has been showcasing his talent for quite some time and sooner rather than later, he will leave Bayer Leverkusen for a big club. It will be a massive statement made by Liverpool if they stave off the competition and sign the German.

Predominantly a number ten, Havertz's playing style is a lot similar to his compatriot and German legend Mesut Ozil but the 20-year-old is much more productive in front of the goal as well.

Ozil's best goalscoring season saw him get a return of just 12 goals and Havertz has already beaten that last season with 17 goals. The German wizard is also pretty versatile and can feature on the flanks as well as a number eight.

Jurgen Klopp is arguably the best manager in the world right now and if given the time, he brings the best out of his players. Havertz would definitely profit if he moves to Anfield at the age of 20 which is the perfect age for learning and adapting.

Liverpool's current record signing is Virgil van Dijk. The Reds shelled out £75m to bring him in from Southampton in Jnauary 2018. He has gone on to become, arguably, the world's best defender, finishing as runner up to Lionel Messi in the 2019 Ballon d'Or.

If Liverpool are willing to spend almost £30m more than that for Havertz, they must have seen something special. If Havertz can get anywhere near that level of van Dijk under Klopp, it could be money well spent by the runaway Premier League leaders.
