Mauricio Pochettino wants to be the next Manchester City manager
Mauricio Pochettino is one of the most high-profile managers in the world at the moment and certainly the best among those who are out of a job.
It is hardly a surprise to see every club who is looking for a managerial change to be linked with the Argentine maestro, who was sacked by Spurs in the middle of the season.
It is a public knowledge that Pochettino is a manager who has interested the Real Madrid hierarchy for quite some time now. With the Los Blancos not particularly flying under Zinedine Zidane, they seem to be following up their long-term interest in the former Southampton boss.
And reports in England claim that although Pochettino is interested in the Real Madrid job, he is not willing to commit to them at the moment. The Argentine is far more interested in the Manchester City job, which could also come his way if Pep Guardiola does not extend his contract at the Etihad.
Guardiola's contract with Manchester City runs until the summer of 2021 and it is claimed that he is not willing to stay beyond that in the blue half of Manchester. To Pochettino, the Manchester city project is far more interesting than the prestigious job of Real Madrid.
The former Tottenham manager snubbed Real Madrid's offer as he wants the chance to return to the Premier League. Pochettino is also reportedly keen on the Manchester United job if it opens up for him in the future.
Recent reports are claiming that Guardiola could even quit Manchester City at the end of this season and return to Bayern Munich despite having a year in his contract remaining. This would make the Citizens look for someone who is capable enough of taking the baton from one of the greatest managers of all time. And, Pochettino is certainly one of the most worthy candidates for that.
Pochettino's and Guardiola's tactics are not too different from each other. They both usually play a front-footed attacking football. However, Pochettino's team usually plays a bit more high intensity game compared to that of Guardiola.
Replacing a manager like Guardiola is really tough but if City have to do that, Pochettino should ideally be their first choice. He is also quite experienced in English football. So, the risk factor is close to zero.
