Max Allegri approves Mario Mandzukic's move to Manchester United
Premier League giants, Manchester United are strongly linked with Juventus' striker,
Mario Mandzukic as per reports in England. Now, Mandzukic's former manager at Juventus, Max
Allegri has given the deal his seal of approval. The Red Devils have been in the hunt for the veteran Juventus forward for most of the year, but decided against making a move last summer as they wanted to maintain their policy of signing younger players.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side, however, have struggled in the attack so far this campaign and that has led
them to change their stance. They are expected to go back in the chase for Mandzukic and a deal
could take place as soon as the winter transfer window opens.
United are desperately short of attacking options having sold Romelu Lukaku and loaned Alexis
Sanchez to Internazionale without signing a replacement. Mandzukic could well be a decent short-
term option as the Red Devils can continue their search for a long-term prospect.
Solskjaer is understood to be more open to the prospect of bringing in a player to solve the short-term issue in the attacking line, while youngsters like Mason Greenwood continue to develop.
Croatian striker has been frozen out at Juventus by new manager Maurizio Sarri this season and is likely to be allowed to leave for a cheap fee. With his immense experience in Europe, Mandzukic could prove to be a great addition to the struggling Man United side.
Allegri has nothing but praise for the player who became vital to him while he was in charge in Turin. Mandzukic was initially a backup striker at Juventus under Allegri, but gradually became a regular and the Italian used him in many different roles.
The Croatian was often used by Allegri on the left flank as a wide target man. It was a unique tactic often deployed by the former Juventus' manager and Mandzukic excelled in that role thanks to his physical presence.
Allegri said: "He is the example of a special player, he gave me a lot of room for manoeuvre,"
"He had often changed teams, but now he is in his fifth season with Juventus and this is one of my
greatest achievements."
