Kylian Mbappe becomes the seventh PSG player to test positive for COVID-19
Kylian Mbappe is the latest victim of the coronavirus and has withdrawn from the France national squad.
With this news, it is also certain that Mbappe will be missing the start of the Ligue 1 season.
France are set to play Croatia in Paris on Tuesday evening in their second Nations League game but they will now be playing without the PSG forward.
France Football confirmed that Mbappe is asymptomatic and has returned home to quarantine. Contracting the virus just a few days prior to the Ligue 1 means Mbappe could be out for a while. He will definitely miss the game against Lens but there’s no assurance of the Frenchman making it on Sunday against Marseille too.
The French FA released a statement concerning the youngster that read, “Kylian Mbappe will not participate in France versus Croatia on Tuesday evening at 20:45 CET at the Stade de France. The result of his COVID-19 test carried out by UEFA on Monday morning was found to be positive. He was placed away from the group after receiving the results, at the end of training before going back to his own home in the evening.”
“Like the entire delegation, Kylian Mbappe had undergone a test prior to the games of the international break. The result was negative, like the one last Wednesday, at the request of UEFA, before Sweden against France.”
Mbappe is now the seventh PSG player to test positive for the virus following the Champions League final.
PSG lost to Bayern Munich in a tight game in the finals but as things stand, they have bigger problems to deal with. Mauro Icardi, Angel Di Maria and Leandro Paredes also tested positive following a trip to Ibiza.
Neymar, Keylor Navas and Marquinhos have made it to the list too. Mbappe was France’s only goalscorer in their win against Sweden on Saturday. However, Antoine Griezmann could’ve easily made it two.
