Former player Mikel Arteta is being tipped to take over at Arsenal

Former Gunners captain Mikel Arteta is now the potential choice to become the next manager of Arsenal. The decision has been made by the club's hierarchy on the wake of the ongoing crisis at the club.

Arsenal lost 3-0 to Manchester City at the Emirates back on Sunday and interim manager Freddie Ljungberg's position is said to be uncertain.

Without much hesitation, the club acted swiftly by holding talks with the Spaniard, who is now the assistant manager of Manchester city.

Arsenal's chief executive Vinai Venkatesham was pictured leaving Arteta's Manchester mansion with Hus Fahmy, who is one of Arsenal's chief negotiators to discuss a deal with the 37-year old.

The Club's chiefs have been impressed by Arteta's work at the Etihad for long. They were close to him even before they signed Unai Emery as their manager last season once Arsene Wenger left the club.

He might not have the managerial experience and expertise that the club expect but he has worked under Pep Guardiola and similar to him, Arteta had also graduated from the ranks of La Masia Academy, Barcelona in his playing time.

After Brief spells at Paris St.Germain,Rangers and Real Sociedad,his playing career blossomed in England, where he first played for Everton and went on to make 174 appearances for the Merseyside scoring 28 goals.

Then he subsequently moved to North London with Arsenal in 2011 and featured in 110 games for the Gunners. He was a renowned midfielder who could play as a deep-lying playmaker and was one of the best Premier League players of his time.

Arteta is a modern coach who understands and improves his players a lot. Despite being an assistant to Guardiola at City, he has also made certain impact as a coach and he should given a chance to take over as the next manager of Arsenal.

The Gunners have been in poor form this season and currently sit 9th in the Premier League table. Arteta's appointment might induce the much needed freshness in the locker room, which could massively impact the performance of players on the pitch.
