Monte Carlo Semi-final Preview: Alexander Zverev vs Stefanos Tsitsipas H2H Prediction

The semi-finals of the Monte Carlo Masters 1000 are all set as defending champion Stefanos Tsitsipas goes head-to-head with Alexander Zverev. 

The winner of the match will book a place in Sunday's final as both players gear up for the crunch encounter. 

With spring confidence running high for both Zverev and Tsitsipas it will be interesting how the action unfolds.

Tsitsipas vs Zverev: Head to Head

Saturday's encounter will be the 10th time the pair will meet, with Tsitsipas leading the head-to-head affair 6-3. 

The pair have met only twice on Clay court, where Tsitsipas holds the edge having won both the matches including a five-set thriller at last year's Roland Garros. 

However, it is the German, Zverev, who won their last meeting as he outclassed Tsitsipas in a close battle in the semis of Cincinnati Masters 1000 last year.

Match Preview & Analysis

Zverev, 24, will expect a tough day at the office against the greek, Tsitsipas, considering he had to sweat a lot during the course of the tournament. 

While the forehand remains a vital tool for him, Zverev will have to focus on his baseline play as Tsitsipas will make use of the court. The aerial shots will have a huge impact as the wind could play a decisive factor in the match. 

With No Novak Djokovic, Zverev will have the golden opportunity to stamp his authority on this one, while he needs to come better in the net shots conversion rate.

Tsitsipas on the horizon will use the serve as a big weapon, which has served him well. Prior to the quarter-final encounter, the Greek star hadn't dropped a set. 

Overall Tsitsipas' ability to break the opponent has been a welcome boost as he dropped only three games in the third round encounter. If everything goes right with serve, the 2021 French Open runner-up will have the favourites tag with him.

Tsitsipas vs Zverev: Journey so far at the Monte Carlo Masters

Before the quarter-final clash against Jannik Sinner, it was a smooth journey for Zverev, he beat Federico Delbonis and Pablo Busta in straight sets. 

However, the clash against Sinner saw him take to his limits as Zverev prevailed in the third set tiebreaker to book his place in the semis. A 5-7, 6-3, 7-6 win saw him sweat while he had to come from behind to march to the final four.

Defending champion Tsitsipas also had a similar journey as he was stretched in the quarter-final by Argentine Diego Schwartzman after coming through in three sets 6-2, 6-7, 6-4. 

Prior to Schwartzman, Laslo Djere and Fabio Fognini were no match to Tsitsipas' all-round play as he swapped them in straight sets. The No.3 seed will be hot favourites considering his ability to play on the court while another close contest awaits.

The semi-final encounter between Zverev and Tsitsipas will be a treat for the fans as the winner will face either Grigor Dimitrov or Alejandro Fokina in the final on Sunday.
