Nations League Preview: Italy vs England |H2H|Team News| Prediction

The Nations League group stage has reached a decisive stage as Italy and England fight for survival in group A3 on Friday evening.

The clash at the San Siro on Matchday 5 could have huge consequences as either one-off Italy or England could face relegation from Group A. The clash will also be the repeat of the Euro 2020 final where Italy beat England on penalties at the Wembley Stadium. England are still winless in the group stage of the Nations League while Italy have picked a win and two draws.

  • Italy lost in the semi-final of the Nations League last year to Spain
  • The reverse clash between the sides finished goalless both teams failed to find the back of the net
  • Despite being European Champions, Italy will not take part in the 2022 FIFA World Cup as they failed to clinch qualification

Italy vs England Head to Head

The two rivals are one of five European nations to have won the World Cup and have over the years graced the game on multiple occasions. They famously met in the final of the Euro 2020 when the Italians came from behind to win on penalties. Over the years the two teams have met on 29 occasions with the Italian having the upper hand with 12 wins.

The reverse fixture between the sides ended in a 0-0 affair both teams missed plenty of chances in the fixture at the Molineux Stadium. The English side will be eager to break their duck for the wins having either lost or drawn so far in the competition.

Italy vs England Qualification Permutations

England are out of the race for the semifinals of the Nations League s they can only avoid the bottom spot and relegation to Group B. Italy on the flip side can still reach the semis as they face Hungary after England and have more than good enough chance to win the group if results go their way.

As things stand Italy will need to beat England and hope for a draw between Germany and Hungary, and a win for them on the final Matchday against Hungary will see them win the group and semifinals.

England on the flip side will get relegated if they get anything less than a win on Thursday, even a draw will see them get relegated to Group B. Even if England beat Italy they will still have to face a tough final Matchday as Germany awaits them, which could still make matters worse for them to avoid relegation.
