New Premier League arrivals that could excel at their new clubs

The summer transfer window is approaching its latter stages, and as usual, there's been plenty of movement involving Premier League clubs.

While many players have moved between English sides following the conclusion of the league season, there has been an abundance of imports from foreign leagues.

Due to the constantly rising broadcast revenues offered to all of the clubs within the league, even lower-half clubs have the financial power to make huge signings. But which of these signings could be set to excel at their new clubs over the coming season and beyond?

Pau Torres

Pau Torres is arguably the signing of the summer at Aston Villa. Manager Unai Emery steered the club not only to stability, but he led them to secure European qualification for the 2023/24 season. Now he is building on the foundations he has set by preparing the club to embark on a serious quest for glory in the UEFA Europa Conference League next campaign.

Andre Onana

Andre Onana is the man that has come in to replace him. The former Inter Milan shot-stopper impressed with his acrobatic reflexes and ability to support his team's build-up in the UEFA Champions League final against Manchester City

Erik Ten Hag knows the Cameroonian goalkeeper extremely well from his time at Ajax when Onana was his undisputed number-one between the sticks.

Onana will not only bring calmness and reliability, but he can actively spark attacking opportunities himself. The new United signing boasts a rare level of skillfulness and composure, in order to take attackers on and help his team beat the opposition's high press.

Liverpool has Alisson Becker and Manchester City has Ederson, now United has finally acquired an elite modern goalkeeper and he will certainly be a game-changer at Old Trafford.

Mahmoud Dahoud

Mahmoud Dahoud was linked with a lucrative move to Liverpool many years ago in the early days of Jurgen Klopp's tenure. But in 2023 he finally got his Premier League move and it is to Brighton and Hove Albion.

Dahoud is exceptionally gifted technically, he is a traditional deep-lying playmaker, with an expansive range of passing. He is also incredibly press resistant, which makes him effective at regularly evading the press. 

Off the ball, Dahoud's efforts do not at all drop. He constantly works to regain possession and is a strong ball winner in addition to strong positional discipline which allows him to often be in the perfect position to defend in transition.

Overall the German midfielder profiles similarly to former Ballon d'Or winner Luka Modric. He helps support the play in deep parts of the pitch but possesses the ability to drive with the ball and open up gaps for others to exploit.

There have been few doubts over Dahoud's ability throughout his career, the only drawback for the Syrian-born technician is his tendency to regularly pick up significant injuries. 

However, if Brighton can carefully manage Dahoud's fitness, then he could explode in the Premier League. Dahoud is not bettered by many midfielders when it comes to technical ability, but of course, availability is the greatest ability after all.
