Are we witnessing the last few days of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang at Arsenal?

There has been a love-hate relationship going on between Arsenal and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who has been stripped of Arenal captaincy by Mikel Arteta after breaching few rules. 

The former Dortmund player has been on headlines after his “latest disciplinary breach” and has been removed from captaining the Gunners. Aubameyang was also dropped for three games against Southampton, West Ham and Aston Villa. 

Aubameyang joined Arsenal for £56m from Borussia Dortmund in 2018 and took over the captaincy when Unai Amery was in charge of Arsenal in 2019.

However, the reason which led to Arteta dropping him from the squad is that he arrived late for the training before their game against Southampton. According to reports, Aubameyang missed the training as he did not return on time, misinterpreting Covid-19 protocols.

 However, last week he trained with the team but was dropped from the squad. After being asked, Arteta said “When we have to make that decision, it’s because it’s the right one to defend the interests of the football club.”

“The decision we have taken as a club is very clear - it is because we believe he has failed to be committed at the level we all expect and agreed,” 

“What I expect from any person in this football club, that is representing this badge, is passion and that he gives absolutely 100%, that he puts the club in front of any personal interests and is able to do anything to fulfil the badge we have on the chest.”

“I am here to make the right decision every day and to defend the club, to be consistent in something that we want to do, on and off the field. We have to be consistent in our decision making.”

Although this is not the first time the 32-year-old has breached the club’s rules. He was in a similar situation when he was in Dortmund and was punished by the German club in 2017. 

Aubameyang will not be the captain of Arsenal anymore, and it is still undecided when he will start playing the matches. 

Will Aubameyang be sold by Arsenal in the January transfer window? 

Since joining Arsenal, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been the X-factor of the club. He scored 22 goals winning the Premier League golden boot in his first season for Arsenal.  

Since then, he has not been an influential player as his performance has waned, and this season he only scored four goals in 14 games and none since October. 

We might see him leave Arsenal soon, as his contract will end in 2023. The Gunners are willing to sell him in January if any club comes with a good offer. 

The rumors have said that Arsenal have Everton’s Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Manchester United’s Edinson Cavani, Real Sociedad’s Alexander Isak and Fiorentina’s Dusan Vlahovic on their shortlist. 

Currently, Aubameyang is the highest earner in the club, and his performance has deteriorated, making liability for the club. 

Arsenal can generate many funds if they decide to sell him and buy a top striker in January, who can spearhead the forward line, and their experience can help the youngsters score more goals.
