Premier League team of the week: Matchday 11

It was again a thrilling match week for the English Premier League fans as they witnessed a lot of things that happened for the first time this season, naming first was the first loss of the season for Tottenham Hotspur as they were down to 9 men for more than half of the game. Arsenal too lost for the first time against Newcastle where the first kickoff for the VAR drama occurred. Sheffield United have their first-ever win in the season 2023-2024 Premier League season as well as they look to avoid relegation.

Amid a lot of exciting matches that happened some players stood out for their team in some style, here is a combination of them in a playing 11.

Formation: 4-3-3

Sam Johnstone - Crystal Palace

Goalkeeper

Vincente Guaita departed and Dean Henderson was bought on for a whopping 20 million Euros, yet the starter for the team is ex-West Brom and England international keeper Sam Johnstone. His performances for the Eagles have been dominant for some matches now and he again proved to be the nod for Roy Hodgson as he made 5 major saves during the match to keep the clean sheet confirmed till the 90th minute.

Ola Aina - Nottingham Forest

Right Back

Aston Villa has become a top-six club considering the performances they have had since Spanish manager Unai Emery took over. Finally, they lost to a Nottingham Forest team who had been in search of a win for the past 2 months, specifically on 2 September. Ola Aina became the difference maker as he scored a vital goal in the fifth minute itself to mount pressure on the Villa side which ultimately resulted in a win.

Harry Maguire - Manchester United

Centre back

His ball-playing ability is something compared to David Beckham’s style these days. 6 accurate long balls is an exceptional statistic in an offensive technicality for a central defender who has a lot more defensive work to do through the game. He was also able to make 9 clearances and two blocks. He has now started 4 consecutive games so far for Manchester United considering his good performances lately.

Fabian Schaar - Newcastle

Centre back

Amid all the VAR drama that occurred in the match, the game was still 90 minutes long for both teams, and Fabian Schar proved to be the best defender in the back line of both teams. Clearly with five clearances, four major ball recoveries, and with four duels in the winning, he could not have lost a position in the premier league team of the week. Not to forget, he also did manage to keep a clean sheet.

Bernardo Silva - Manchester City

Right Midfield

Winning 6-1 and also teasing the opposition by not giving away the ball in tense situations is something Bernardo Silva is good at and he did the same against a weak Bournemouth side. He is not letting the city fans miss Kevin de Bruyne a lot with his sublime displays consistently. He was able to present a great performance against fierce rivals Manchester United and then again opposite Bournemouth.

Bruno Fernandez - Manchester United

Centre Midfielder

The Manchester United club captain again proved to be the difference maker for the Red Devils as they just won against Fulham in the Premier League. The Portuguese star scored at the very end during the added-on time. He held his composure by faking his shot twice and shot the hall in the bottom left corner past Bernd Leno. He had one key pass, and two successful dribbles alongside three major tackles in the game.

Cole Palmer - Chelsea

Left Midfield

Again, given a start and yet again on the scoresheet. The new signing for Chelsea has been one of the best as he converted from the spot again to give his team the crucial leveller when the opponents were 10 men down. He was again on the provider charts as he set up Nicholas Jackson for his final goal of the game in the 97th minute as well.

Anthony Gordon - Newcastle

Right-wing

He has been one of the most important players in past games lately. The Englishman was considered a not-so-good signing when he arrived as he struggled for form last season but has turned out to be a match-winner due to some of his crucial goals against major opponents. He was also involved in that controversial goal against Arsenal as they clinched three important points at home.

Nicholas Jackson - Chelsea

Centre striker

He would have ended the game with five goals to his name and also a perfect ten in terms of form but missed two sitters that caused him a record. Nevertheless, the new signing from Villarreal is already topping the goals charts and the hat trick will help boost his morale as well with him settling into life at Chelsea pretty much easily.

Jeremy Doku - Manchester City

Left-wing

The best player across all of the globe during the past match week. Jeremy Doku was unstoppable as he scored one and assisted not one, two, three but four, Yes FOUR goals for his side. Astonishingly none of them were an assist to Erling Haaland’s as he didn’t score, but he did take away the limelight that day from the Norwegian. Pep Guardiola also said in a press conference about how excited everyone gets when Doku has the ball at his feet. Well, there should be an award for three assists in a match too just like we have for the Hattrick.
