Racism, the only disease right now, says Raheem Sterling
Raheem Sterling spoke out in the wake of George Floyd’s death in the United States.
The Manchester City star said the “only disease right now is the racism that we are fighting,” following Floyd’s death. There have been nationwide protests in the United States after George Floyd, an African-American man who was killed in police custody in Minneapolis on May 25,
An officer was captured kneeling on Floyd’s neck during an arrest after he was crying out for help as he was handcuffed and pinned to the ground.
Sterling backed the anti-racism protests and spoke out against this cruelty saying, “I know this might sound a little cheesy but the only disease right now is the racism that we are fighting. This is the most important thing at this moment in time because this is something that is happening for years and years. Just like the pandemic, we want a solution to stop it,” he told BBC Newsnight.
He also spoke in favor of the people actively involved in the protest, defending them by saying that the people are trying to find a solution and a way to stop injustice they are seeing regularly and they will keep fighting for their cause.
However, Sterling made himself clear that the protests should be carried out peacefully without hurting anyone physically and he also condemned people breaking into stores or houses. He told that the message should be conveyed at any cost but only in a peaceful manner.
As per recent reports, even Premier League is in support against this injustice and that means that league will permit people kneeling during the game as a sign of paying tribute or a peaceful way to show solidarity against what happened in the United States of America. Premier League clubs have been posting their training pictures regularly, kneeling in support of the late George Floyd.
