Roman Abramovich looks set to sell Chelsea after almost two decades!!

The west London club confirms with an official statement that Roman Abramovich has decided to sell Chelsea. 

The move came on the backdrop of Russia's military invasion of Ukraine, which put many Russian billionaires in a risky position as they feared that many countries would sanction them. 

Roman Abramovich was one of them to whom the UK Government threatened to freeze his assets, and top of that, he had a close relationship with President Vladimir Putin, hence, the Russian billionaire was hanging on a thin line. 

As the pressure kept mounting on him, Abramovich decided to give the club's ownership to trustees of Chelsea. He passed "stewardship and care" of the club to Chelsea's charitable foundation trustees last weekend with an aim to protect the club following Russia and Ukraine's conflict.  

Subsequently, he has decided to step down as their owner and said his net proceeds from the sale of Chelsea will be donated "for the benefit of all victims of the war in Ukraine." 

While the reports say, Swiss Billionaire Hansjorg Wyss has said he has been offered chance to buy the club.

Labour MP Chris Bryant revealed Roman Abramovich would also sell his flat in the UK and is "terrified of being sanctioned".

And it's unlikely that chairman Bruce Buck, who has monitored the club's day-to-day operations at Stamford Bridge since 2004 and Marina Granovskaia, who works as a director of the club, will remain in their position beyond any potential sale.

Abramovich has also claimed he will not ask the club to repay any of the loans. He owned £1.5billion by Chelsea when he bought the club in a £140m deal in 2003.

"The club's sale will not be fast-tracked but will follow due process. This has never been about business nor money for me, but about pure passion for the game and club," Abramovich added.

According to Abramovich's spokesperson, he is attempting to broker peace between Russia and Ukraine. He has decided to install a charitable foundation where all the sales of Chelsea will be donated to the foundation. 

In a statement, Abramovich said, "The foundation will be for the benefit of all victims of the war in Ukraine." 

"This includes providing critical funds towards the urgent and immediate needs of victims, as well as supporting the long-term work of recovery."

End of an era at Chelsea:

Since taking over the helms as an owner of Chelsea, the Blues won five Premier League titles, five FA Cups, three League Cups, two Europa League, Club World Cup and two Champions League. Roman Abramovich won every possible trophy in club football in his 19 years reign. 

Roman Abramovich formed a great relationship with fans, despite all the questions and controversies. He had a habit of firing managers who failed to inspire Chelsea to glory. 

His departure would be the end of two decades of eventual relationship with fans club authorities and managers. 

The Russian billionaire's takeover in 2003 oversaw Chelsea thriving on big stages no matter how much instability he appeared to welcome with constant firing and hiring of managers, but one thing was sure that Chelsea enjoyed a notable period of success under Roman's ownership.
