Cristiano Ronaldo told me Serie A is the toughest place to score goals: Romelu Lukaku

Romelu Lukaku has revealed that he spoke to Cristiano Ronaldo when Juventus visited San Siro to play Inter Milan and the Portuguese talisman told him that he had found Serie A the toughest league in the world to score goals.

Ronaldo has been a fluent goal-scorer wherever he has played in his career and he has done fairly well for Juventus as well since moving from Real Madrid in 2018.

However, he had a dip in form recently and he was substituted twice by his boss Maurizio Sarri, which he didn’t take too kindly.

On one of the occasions, he was reported to have left the ground even before the final whistle was blown by the referee and he had to receive a lot of flak from the media as well as the fans for being disrespectful to his teammates.

But, the 34-year old seems to have got his rhythm back now and it was only in the last game against Sampdoria that he scored with a sensational header from almost 8 ft. above the ground.

According to Lukaku, Premier League might be ahead in terms of intensity on the pitch, but when it comes to the defensive patterns, Serie A is better. 

It’s not easy to go past the defense of the teams in Italy even if you are a quality goal-scorer and if Cristiano Ronaldo also thinks the same, it must be true.

“He (Ronaldo) told me this is the hardest defensive league in the world. He said he'd scored goals everywhere, but this was the toughest place to do it. And if Cristiano Ronaldo thinks it's difficult, then it must be really difficult.” Lukaku was quoted saying by Bleacher Report.

Lukaku played in England for eight years before moving to Italy earlier this year. The Belgium international played for West Bromwich Albion, Everton and Manchester United.
