Ronaldo on a different level in the UCl, says Chiellini

Giorgio Chiellini praised teammate Cristiano Ronaldo and said the Juventus star went onto another level when it came to the Champions League. Chasing a first UCL title since 1996, Juve were in the last-16 having lost the first leg away to Lyon 1-0 when the season was suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Ronaldo, who is currently 35 years old, became the first player to win the Champions League five times when he helped Real Madrid claim the title in 2018. The Italian defender also feels that the Portugal captain has a level above everyone else when it comes to Europe’s elite club competition.

While chatting on Instagram live, he said, “Cristiano is doing well though he had that knee problem that slowed him down for a month and a half. He changed the way he played compared to when he was younger. He is enhanced with the big games. Maybe against the small teams, he makes a performance that seems subdued. With the big games, he is incredible.”

“In the Champions League, he turns. He feels it coming and he turns the engine up.” Ronaldo has scored 25 goals in 32 games for Juventus this season, including two in seven in the Champions League. However, with Serie A return approaching closer, Ronaldo will be looking forward to getting his team closer and closer to the Scudetto as he looks to chase the golden boot too with Ciro Immobile being a top contender for it in Serie A.

One of the prime reasons for Ronaldo’s move to Juventus was to win the Champions League with a different team and being hailed as “The King of the Champions League,” he will be looking forward to becoming the top-scorer of the competition this season too. To put things into perspective, Cristiano Ronaldo did not have a single UCL goal in his first 30 games but he is still the competition’s all-time leading goal scorer by a healthy margin.
