“We can grind out results as well”, Ole appreciates his boys for a hard-fought victory
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was really pleased with the fact that Manchester United weathered the storm against Burnley as they were put under pressure on a consistent basis in the second half of the game, which took place at Turf Moor.
United came into the second half in a comfortable position having scored the opening goal just minutes before the break, courtesy Anthony Martial.
But, Burnley came back from the break all guns blazing and launched numerous attacks, taking the game to United by moving the ball consistently into their half and getting into threatening positions at times. However, they weren’t clinical with their finishing.
Despite United being able to maintain the lead, the game was not done and dusted at any stage and it was only during the closing seconds that Marcus Rashford eventually sealed it for the Red Devils with the second goal.
Solskjaer admitted that the game could have been sealed much earlier and United had the opportunity to do so, as they had caught Burnley on the counter attack on a couple of occasions when the hosts moved forward and lost the possession.
But despite being caught on the counter-attack, Burnley’s defensive work was top class as they kept United in check right till the very end.
“We could have finished the game off really; we had some great counter-attacking chances. We should have got the second goal earlier but there was some great defending.” Solskjaer said in the post-match press conference.
"It's important for us to know that we can grind out results as well.” Solskjaer further added.
With the 2-0 victory, the Red Devils moved up the table and are now positioned at fifth in the table. They left behind Tottenham Hotspur, who played out a 2-2 draw against Norwich City at the Carrow Road earlier in the day.
