Tottenham Hotspur want out of favour Leicester City striker on loan
Premier League giants Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly set to make a shock move for Leicester City flop Islam Slimani. Jose Mourinho is desperate to recruit a new striker this month with his key man Harry Kane set to miss the rest of the season with a hamstring injury.
The Special One initially wanted Porto striker Ze Luis on a loan deal and the deal looked all but done. But, it could not be completed due to issues with the work permit of the Cape Verde international.
And according to reports in England, the Portuguese has turned his attention to Slimani who is already on loan at AS Monaco from Premier League rivals Leicester City.
It is believed that Spurs are also monitoring a host of other strikers across Europe but their preferred target is Slimani at the moment.
The Algerian has revived his career to some extent with Monaco this season. He has scored seven and created seven for his teammates this season for the Ligue 1 club.
The 31-year-old's form this season is definitely a big improvement when compared to his disappointing time at the King Power Stadium.
He joined the Premier League side, the then champions of England after their historic season, for a then club-record £29million back in 2016. The Algerian managed to score only 13 goals in 46 games.
Slimani is a proven striker at the international level as well having racked up 69 caps for current African champions Algeria and having scored 30 goals for them.
On a loan deal, Slimani could prove to be a decent short-term solution to Spurs striker problems. He is certainly a player worth taking a risk for.
Struggling Premier League side Aston Villa are also linked with the Leicester City loanee as they also look to find a replacement of their first-choice number nine Wesley who is out with an ACL injury.
Both clubs also explored the opportunity to sign out of favour Milan striker Krzysztof Piatek on loan. But, Milan are only looking to offload the Pole on a permanent deal and both the clubs are reluctant to sign him permanently.
