Terry can be as successful as Lampard, says ex-Chelsea boss

Carlo Ancelotti reflected on his time with the Blues and praised two of his former star players who are now into coaching too. 

Former Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti feels that John Terry will be as impressive as the current Chelsea boss when he gets into becoming a manager.

Ancelotti was in charge of Chelsea between 2009 and 2011 and did pretty decent with the squad. Frank Lampard and Terry, both were part of that team and were doing very well. 

Terry, who is the assistant manager of Aston Villa at the moment, is also backed by the Italian to do well when he’s given the job of a manager.

Ancelotti was also asked about Lampard’s success by Sky Sports, when he said, “I’m not surprised because as a player, Frank had fantastic tactical qualities". 

"Of course, Frank is doing really well at Chelsea. I’m waiting now for Terry as a manager. Now he is an assistant but I think they both have the qualities to be a good manager.”

Ancelotti, who is currently the boss of Everton also expressed how easy his first season was with the Blues, with his side winning the club’s first Premier League and FA Cup double. 

However, he was open enough to accept that the second year was comparatively more difficult. One of the reasons for Chelsea’s failure in his second season was the malaria of Didier Drogba, who scored 36 goals in Ancelotti’s first year.

However, it was not only Drogba who earned the Italian’s praise. “Florent Malouda, Joe Cole, Salomon Kalou, Michael Ballack in the middle, Essien, Deco and Branislav, Ivanovic and Ashley Cole at the back. 

So the team really, really was a fantastic team. When I arrived, the team was there, I didn’t build the team, so I was really excited to train these kinds of players with this kind of power. Imagine when you needed to prepare set-pieces, you had John Terry, Alex, Drogba, Ballack to jump so it was not so difficult to score on set-pieces,” Ancelotti added.
