Chelsea tactical analysis under new coach Thomas Tuchel

Thomas Tuchel has shown a significant impact on Chelsea's fortune in the Premier League after an abrupt sacking of Frank Lampard. We take a look at what did he bring to the table.

The German manager has come up with ingenious tactics and is already building a reputation in the Premier League alongside the other great managers. His appointment came following the sacking of Frank Lampard. 

Under him, Chelsea was abysmal and struggling to win the games; this led to a lengthy discussion between the Chelsea board, which resulted in the club legend's sacking; many pundits were against the decision and stated: "he should have gotten more time to take the club forward."

Under the former Borussia Dortmund manager, the Blues has been quite astute; the coach has a great understanding of the game, as we all saw how he took PSG to the UCL final last year. Tuchel has an outstanding record with star players as evidenced by his time at the Parisian club and could be the ultimate fit for Chelsea. 

The Blue's squad is filled with several young talented players, and Tuchel is a suitable coach for the team and can make significant transitions. Tuchel has managed some high-profile Bundesliga and Ligue 1 talents, and no doubt he would bring the best out of Chelsea youngsters. 

After a win against Atletico Madrid in the UCL, Chelsea extended their unbeaten run to eight games, thanks to the new gaffer and the player's stunning displays since his appointment. 

Tuchel has come up with a new formation 3-4-2-1 with three players in the attack, four in the midfield with 3 at the back, a reminiscent of Chelsea's title-winning season under Antonio Conte during 2016-17.

The new formation has given Chelsea a new variation where they can stop counter-attacks with ease. He has also made them more dominating and implemented a possession-based system, which helps them play quick football in tight spaces.

The youngsters have thrived under Tuchel's splendid system, with full-backs Reece James and Marco Alonso proving their worth under Tuchel, Mateo Kovacic, and Jorginho dominating the midfield, and defenders like Rudiger, Christensen, and Azpilicueta impregnable in the defence. The team has a great squad and managed the highest possession with a promising forward, making them more confident on the field.   

Chelsea has chances to finish in the top four and can go further in the Champions League after their win over La Liga leaders Atletico Madrid in the first leg of their round of 16 clash. 

Three difficult fixtures lie ahead, as they face Manchester United, Liverpool, and Everton, which will be the real test for Tuchel, and he would want to make his mark in the Premier League with his scintillating squad.
