UEFA Champions League ROUND-UP: Matchday 5
Here we are with the conclusion of the final day in the Champions League Matchday 5 with almost certain assumptions of teams that’ll be heading into the round of 16. Some results that the fans were expecting to happen while some caused a shocking reaction throughout the game. The end of Matchday 5 brings a lot into teams that’ll still put all of themselves in the last Matchday as well to move ahead or at least qualify for the Europa League.
Group - B
Arsenal vs Lens
Final score line:
Scorers: Kai Havertz (13’) assisted by Gabriel Jesus
Gabriel Jesus (21’) assisted by Bukayo Saka
Bukayo Saka (23’)
Gabriel Martinelli (27’) assisted by Takehiro Tomiyasu
Martin Odegaard (45+1’) assisted by Takehiro Tomiyasu
Jorginho (86’) Penalty
Match facts: A thumping of Lens felt like more of a revenge taken for the previous encounter that the gunners lost in France. A game where there were 6 different scorers all together and Kai Havertz opened up the scoring making it two goals in two games. A match that sent them through to the round of 16 with goal difference increasing to 12 which also equals the number of points they have.
Group - A
Bayern Munich vs FC København
Final score line: 0-0
Scorers: None
Match facts: A Score line not expected in this encounter. A 0-0 draw against German champions in the Champions League is an exception return for a team that does not play against larger opponents. København might not go ahead to the round of 16 but would be the happiest with the results that they had after yesterday's game.
Group - D
Benfica vs Inter Milan
Final score line:
Scorers: Joao Mario (5’) assisted by C. Tengstedt
Joao Mario (13’)
Joao Mario (34’)
Marko Arnautovic (54’)
Davide Fratessi(58’) assisted by Francesco Acerbi
Alexis Sanchez (72’) Penalty
Match facts: The whole match would have been about Joao Mario as the former Inter player scored a first-half hattrick against his former employers, but the Champions League isn’t just a competition from teams across Europe but the best teams. Last year's finalist Inter Milan came from three goals down to register a draw in what meant to be a phenomenal comeback to earn a point from nothing.
Real Sociedad vs RB Salzburg
Final score line: 0-0
Scorers: None
Match facts: Real Sociedad have qualified for the round of 16 of the Champions League with top spot in their group and 11 points, with just the goal difference separating Inter Milan away from them. A result they were not hoping to have after the match against RB Salzburg but they would be happy to earn a point compared to losing all of them.
Group - C
Braga vs Union Berlin
Final score line: 1-1
Scorers: Robin Gosens (42’) assisted by Jerome Roussillon
Alvaro Djalo (51’) assisted by Ricardo Horta
Match facts: Both Braga and Union Berlin are out of the Champions League for sure but have a tough fight to at least qualify for the Europa League. It’ll take us down to the Matchday 6 of the tournament to find out who loses out to qualify for the smaller competition. Union Berlin had the lead at half time but Alvaro Djalo equalized for the home side to earn his team a vital draw.
Real Madrid vs Napoli
Final score line: 4-2
Scorers: Giovanni Simeone (9’) assisted by De Lorenzo
Rodrygo (11’) assisted by Brahmi Diaz
Jude Bellingham (22’) assisted by David Alaba
Zambo Anguissa (47’)
Nico (84’) assisted by Antonio Rudiger
Joselu (90+4’) assisted by Jude Bellingham
Match facts: Jude Bellingham and his scoring spree continues. Still playing with a shoulder injury, the English man is proving to be a pound-to-pound signing for the Los Blancos. Already breaking Cristiano Ronaldo’s record, the prolific central midfielder turn Attacking midfielder is guiding Real Madrid to success every day.
