Victor Wembanyama bounces back strong in the Second Summer League Game

Victor Wembanyama had a far greater impression in his second NBA Summer League game than he did in his debut on Friday night. The No. 1 overall selection scored 27 points on 9-of-14 shooting with 12 rebounds and three blocks as the San Antonio Spurs fell 85-80 to the Portland Trail Blazers, who were without Scoot Henderson, at the Thomas & Mack Centre in Las Vegas.

After a lacklustre showing on his debut, the Spurs youngster sparkled during game 2 of the summer league encounter. He displayed all of the qualities that captivated NBA scouts and fans in the run-up to the 2023 NBA Draft when he was the consensus #1 choice for the whole year.

Despite losing Henderson due to a shoulder injury, the Trail Blazers triumphed 85-80. Michael Devoe, a 2022 undrafted player who played in the G League from 2022 to 2023, took his place. In 28 minutes, Devoe led all scorers with 29 points, five assists, two steals, and two rebounds.

The Spurs trailed by as many as 19 points and never led the game, but Wembanyama did everything he could to keep things close in the fourth quarter. Ten of Wembanyama's 27 points came in the fourth quarter, including a 3-pointer with under two minutes remaining to narrow the advantage to one point. However, San Antonio was unable to break through and take the lead, resulting in the team's second consecutive Summer League defeat. 

Wembanyama will have plenty of time to prepare for the 2023-24 NBA season because he will not be playing for France in the FIBA World Cup. If Webanyama's final Summer League game was on Sunday night, he just provided us with a solid idea of what to anticipate from him in his rookie season.
