Who will win the Swedish football league Superettan 2024: preview

The new season of Sweden's second-strongest football championship will start at the end of March 2024 and end in the first half of November. 16 clubs take part in the competition, which will play each other once at home and away, and will play 30 rounds in total. The championship title will go to the team that scores the most points.

According to bookmakers, the following four teams will compete for victory in Superettan and a direct ticket to Allsvenskan: Esther, Degerfors, Sundsvall and Helsingborg. You can determine who will get a set of gold medals by studying each of the proposed clubs. If you want to make money betting on Swedish football, then go to a bukmeker.

Esther

The Red-Blues finished fourth in the standings last season. The fifth Östersund club from Växjö was ahead by 12 points, and only three behind the first two. Having won 16 victories and drawn in six cases, Esther suffered eight defeats. At the same time, the team had one of the strongest attacks in the division, which averaged almost two goals per game. Only GAIS scored more against Martin Foyston's team in the last Superettan draw.

Last year, Esther was a little short of being in the top two and promoted in class. The team retained its core and the “red-blues” were led by a new coach. So the chances of winning the Superettan for the third time in the club’s history are quite good for Sven Johannesson’s brainchild.

Degerfors

The Red-Whites were relegated last season and will try to return to Allsvenskan no later than in a year. Taking 15th place, Degerfors was 11 points ahead of 16th Varberg, and seven points behind 14th Brommapojkarna. Having won only seven matches and tied five matches, Andreas Holmberg's boys lost 18 times. It is also worth noting that in the strongest football league in Sweden, the brainchild of Jan-Ove Beckman had one of the worst attacks and defenses. On average, Sebastian Olsson and his partners scored one goal per match and conceded a little more than two.

Degerfors should not count on an easy playing year. The level of opponents will be lower than last season, but many can create problems for the red-whites. At the same time, this club is deservedly on the list of the main favorites to win the tournament.

Sundsvall

The Blue-Yellows finished at the bottom of the tournament in 10th place in the last Superettan draw and were 20 points behind the top three. Having won nine times and drawn eight times, Sundsvall lost 13 times. Giffarna's defense was one of the weakest in the championship, and its attack was among the worst in the top ten. Moreover, at the end of the competition, the brainchild of Karl-Goran Andersson had the biggest disadvantage in the difference between goals scored and goals conceded.

In January and February, Sundsvall played three friendly matches, in which they won against Hudiksvall and Gefle, and also signed a world title with FC Umeå. The sparring does not mean anything and it is unlikely that the “blue-yellows” will improve so much in the new season that they will find themselves in the top three.

Helsingborg

Last season did not go well for the Reds, but Helsingborg was able to get ahead of the zone of transition matches for the right to remain in Superettan based on additional indicators. Having lost in 13 matches, the inhabitants of the Olympia Stadium drew nine times and managed to win in eight cases. It is also worth noting that the “milk cow” had the second weakest attack after Eskilstuna, but the defense was in the top five.

Helsingborg's selection of players is good and the team is capable of improving. But it will be extremely difficult for the “milk cow” to have a strong enough season to win gold medals. However, the Reds will definitely make every effort to move up in class.

Our forecast

Helsingborg and Sundsvall will most likely not be able to get even the top three, let alone the gold. Next season there are more formidable teams with strong squads and better play. Most likely, Degerfors and Esther will compete for first place in the standings. The Red-Blues had several good seasons, but they were just a little short of winning the Superettan. With the right attitude, in 2024 the representatives of Växjö will win gold medals.
