Five Young Guns who are making Waves this Year

2019 has seen some truly memorable sporting feats. Some Young Turks also came the fore and took the sporting world by storm. 

We take a look at some of these exciting youngsters who have had a wonderful year and can continue to enthrall us for years to come:

Charles Leclerc

Charles Leclerc is the new blue-eyed boy of the most decorated team in Formula 1 history, Ferrari. With his blazing performances in the later stage of the season, he has set the circuit on fire with back to back wins at Belgian and Italian Grands Prix.

Questions were raised when Ferrari signed this 14 races old rookie last year. But, he didn't take much time to prove his critics wrong when he became the second-youngest driver to qualify on pole position in Formula One during his first Ferrari season at Bahrain. 

The Monegasque driver has won two of the last three Grands Prix and can go for a late charge at the Championship title with some good finishes in the remaining six Grands Prix. With him around, and with Ferrari getting faster and better, things are looking great for Formula 1.

Jadon Sancho

Sancho is a superstar in the making. The former Manchester City player star is on the rise ever since he made the switch to German giants, Borussia Dortmund. The youngster has scored 17 goals and provided 23 assists for BVB till date which is a great haul for someone this young. 

He has also starred for the three Lions in whatever opportunities he has got till yet. He brings street smartness and pure joy to the game, which seems mechanical at times. 

His market value has skyrocketed and is touching €100 M with all the top European clubs vying for his signature. 

Daniil Medvedev

From booing him to clapping and rooting for him, the US Open crowd was enthralled by the sheer audacity and grit shown by this Russian starlet. He faced arguably the greatest tennis player ever, Roger Federer in the final and stretched the match to five sets. 

2019 has been a breakthrough year for Medvedev. He was seeded at the Australian Open and started defeating some real big names.

Recently, the Russian reached four hard court tournament finals (Washington, Montreal, New York and Cincinati). The US Open final was the cherry on the cake for the World No. 4 and his temperament and class stood out from the rest.

Tammy Abraham

This Chelsea Academy graduate is having a dream season in which he has scored seven goals in five Premier League appearances. He is going neck-to-neck with some of the most lethal goal strikers of our generation, which is an achievement in itself.

After sending him on three loan spells, the transfer window ban forced the Blues to look within. Frank Lampard is all up for youngsters and Abraham was given ample opportunities to prove his worth which he took with both hands.

The Englishman became the youngest player to score a Premier League hat-trick for Chelsea and is one of the candidates for the Golden Boot. There are rumours going around that he could change his allegiance to Nigeria. The Three Lions should act quickly to snap him up as soon as possible so as not to lose out on this marvelous talent.

Bianca Andreescu

The youngster has become the first Canadian, and the first player born in the 2000s, to win a Grand Slam singles title. She also became the first woman to win the US Open in her debut appearance.

The Canadian won her first WTA tour title this year at Indian Wells and that too as a wildcard. The 19-year old followed it up with another title at the Rogers Cup.

Bianca was named the female summer athlete of the year and also captured the people's choice award for the performance of the year at the Canadian Sport Awards.

This fifth ranked player stocks are on the rise and she is touted as the next big thing in women’s tennis. With her aggressive playing style and sheer grit and passion, she can quickly rise up in the rankings and show us that the US Open win by defeating Serena Williams was not a flash in the pan.

Erling Braut Håland

This Norway international came into the limelight when he scored nine goals in Norway U20's 12–0 win against Honduras U20 at the 2019 FIFA U-20 World Cup. His record breaking feat set a new U-20 World Cup record for most goals scored by a single player in a match, and also the biggest win by any team in the history of the tournament.

The teenager announced his arrival at the biggest stage when he became the eighth player to score a hat-trick on his Champions League debut. This was his third hat-trick for the Austrian club. He is on a roll this season as evident by his 11 goals for RB Salzburg in seven appearances with.

Cori Gauff

This former junior World No. 1 became the youngest player to qualify for the main draw in the Wimbledon's history at a tender age of 15. She also defeated Venus Williams on her way to reach the fourth round of the prestigious event.

The American was praised by the media and other players for her performance throughout the tournament and her maturity.
