Salzburg sensation Erling Haaland signs for Borussia Dortmund
Once the Bundesliga resumes after the Christmas break is over, everyone's focus will be on Erling Haaland as Borussia Dortmund won his signature, beating the likes of Manchester United and Juventus in the process.
The transfer fee is rumored to be around 20 million euros and the 19-year old has penned a deal that will keep him at the Signal Iduna Park till the year 2024. This move is touted to be a surprise as many pundits thought that the Norwegian would surely ply his trade elsewhere in Europe.
The forward has been enjoying a scintillating season so far. With 28 goals in 22 games for RB Salzburg so far, the youngster is quite a revelation. He is the only teenager to have scored in five consecutive UEFA Champions league matches.
According to several rumors, his move to the BVB materialized after his advisor and super agent Mino Raiola convinced the player to grab a move to Germany instead of opting for England.
Red Devils Boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has already managed him at his former club, Molde and it generated immense speculation that Haaland could make a move to Old Trafford. But, United's interest in him seemed to have cooled down owing to the recent performances by Mason Greenwood for the club.
On completing his move to Dortmund, Haaland stated that:
"I had intense talks with the club hierarchy, especially with Hans-Joachim Watzke, Michael Zorc and coach Lucien Favre"
"I had the feeling from an early stage that I really wanted to join this club and play in front of over 80,000 supporters. I can't wait to get started."
Dortmund sporting director Zorc placed his confidence on their new signing and stated that:
"We can expect an ambitious, athletic and physical centre forward with a proven nose for goal.
"At 19, Erling is still at the start of what will hopefully be a massive career."
Borussia Dortmund have also released a statement on when will Haaland start training with his team-mates:
"Haaland will join the first-team squad on Jan. 3 before departing for winter training camp in Marbella the following day."
