Everton provide major injury update on Andre Gomes

Everton's Portuguese midfielder, Andre Gomes suffered a terrifying injury in the much-anticipated clash against Tottenham Hotspur.

Spurs winger Son-Heung Min tackled Gomes from behind and as a result, his foot got stuck under Serge Aurier's boots thereby dislocating his ankle. 

Son was left reduced to tears as he experienced the horror that he had just seen and was sent off after being shown a straight red card by the referee. The injury had shocked players from both the sides and the match was entirely overshadowed by this incident. 

The Toffees were trailing 1-0 down after Dele Alli's low driven shot found the bottom corner of the net. Turkey striker Cenk Tosun got the equaliser for Everton in the 97th minute, thus ending the match in a thrilling manner.

The 26-year old Gomes is now out for the rest of the season and Everton have provided a major injury update in what is regarded as one of the worst ever injury incidents that has taken place in the English Premier League.

The Toffees have released a statement on their official social media handle regarding the injury crisis that Andre Gomes has undergone a successful surgery and is now on the road to recovery. 

They are confident that the former Barcelona man would recover at a fast pace. Once the treatment in the hospital is over, he will return to the USM Finch farm and his rehabilitation is set to be carried on by the club's medical staff.

Everton Boss Marco Silva also expressed sorrow for his fellow country-man and stated in a post-match interview: 

"It is a serious injury and I am one hundred percent sure Andre will become stronger as a footballer player and stronger as a man. He is a fantastic lad and professional and all the support he needs, he will have from us. Our players are sad now, it is a tough moment in our dressing room, but the spirit we showed after that moment was good".

Several players and fans have showered their support for the midfielder .The whole footballing community awaits the return of Gomes back to the pitch for the Merseysiders.
