French Open 2022: Semi Final & Final Predictions | Men's Singles | Women's Singles

What astounding matches, French Open lived up to its name. Players had to show resolve and tenacity in the quarter-finals. Every match was a treat. 

Zverev played with caution and controlled aggression to defeat red hot Alcaraz. Nadal was at his vintage best, and his down the line whistling winners dumbfounded Novak. This was the 8th defeat of Novak against Nadal in the French Open, which shows the dominance of Nadal.

Cilic played with the panache that he displayed in winning US open in 2014, where he crushed Federer. We should not forget that he won silver in the Tokyo Olympics.

Casper Ruud showed his improved game to down giant killer Rune. His forehand is a treat to watch.

A) French Open Men's Singles

Semifinals 1

1. Rafael Nadal (5th) vs Alexander Zverev (3rd)

Nadal displayed the game of yesteryears and if he continues to play like this, no one can stop him from winning his 14th french open and 22nd slam. 

The Spaniard played an old trick of claiming to be injured so that Djokovic was waiting for Nadal to crack. Djokovic played the same trick in the 2021 Australian open to outfox Medvedev.

Zverev has a new coach Sergei  Bruguera, a two-time French Open champion. The result was there to see. Zverev has reduced the power of his forehand to reduce errors. He is waiting for more for his lethal backhand to unleash winners.

Head to Head: Rafael Nadal leads 6-3 against Alexander Zverev.

This will be a treat to watch one should not miss this match. If Zverev extends to 5 sets than only he has a chance.

2. Marin Cilic (20th) vs Casper Ruud (8th)

In victories over Medvedev and Rublev, Marin Cilic has shown consistent error-free attack from both forehand and backhand, and once he is in that position his Big serve is the clinching factor.

Casper Ruud is in the form of his life and he has a heavy topspin which upsets the rhythm of the opponent's shot-making. However, he slices his backhand and Cilic can capitalise on the same by hitting a combination of across and down the line forehand.

I feel the consistency of Cilic will be tested against the heavy topspin of Ruud, errors will come from Cilic and he will crack.

Rafael Nadal (5th) Vs Casper Ruud (8th)

Lasso spin of Nadal will astound Ruud. Nadal crushes slice and he hits the ball to any corner. As Rudd generally slices from his backhand. So Nadal will control the rallies at will.

Somehow they have never played against each other.

I am inspired by getting 3 out of 4 quarter-final matches correctly so I am taking the liberty of analysing the women's matches.

Semi-final 1

1. Iga Swiatek (1st) vs D. Kasatkina (20th)

Swiatek is in the purple patch of her career. Her unbeaten streak is a phenomenon in Women's Tennis. Her backhand is powerful and her angles are a geometric marvel.

Kasatkina is consistent and she is a returner and thrives on errors. However, she lacks power.

Semi-final 2

2. C. Gauff  18th seed vs M Trevisan

It has been an unprecedented journey for both players.  Trevisan is an old veteran and with a ranking of 59, was not expected to reach this far. She has been hitting winners as she had nothing to lose. Her smile at crucial points displays her amusement at her reaching this stage.

C Gauff is a prodigy and she is a retriever.

She will chase every ball and do counter punching. However, she lacks the power game and in years to come she will develop that.

French Open Women's Singles Final 🏆

I. Iga Swiatek (1st) vs  C. Gauff (18th)

It will be a battle of good rallies but Swiatek is at top of her game and her backhand will destroy Gauff. Swiatek can be beaten if her opponent hits power shots and Swiatek is in a defensive position. Gauff lacks the power so the rallies will be there but Swiatek will prevail
