IND vs WI 2023 : Mohammed Siraj rested for the ODI series
Mohammed Siraj has been released from India’s ODI squad ahead of the three-match series against the West Indies. The right-arm fast-bowler has a sore ankle and as a precautionary measure, he has been advised to rest by the BCCI medical team.
Siraj, who was not part of the T20I squad for the Caribbean tour, flew back with the rest of the Test contingent - Ajinkya Rahane, KS Bharat, Ravichandran Ashwin and Navdeep Saini after India’s 1-0 series win against the Windies. The team management has not called for a replacement player for the ODI series, which starts from 27th July, 2023 in Barbados.
The Indian pacer had a good Test series against WI as he performed really well. He picked up seven wickets in the two Tests, including a five-for in the first innings on a flat track to cause a batting collapse for the West Indies on the fourth morning. Prior to this tour, he was also part of the World Test Championship final 2023 at The Oval against Australia picking up five wickets, including a four-for in the first innings. In IPL this season, he played a crucial part for Royal Challengers Bangalore where he took 19 wickets in 14 matches.
In Siraj’s absence, Shardul Thakur will become the most experienced seamer in India’s squad, with 50 wickets in 35 matches. The other three pacers - Umran Malik, Jaydev Unadkat and Mukesh Kumar. They have a combined total of 15 ODIs between them. Mukesh is yet to make his debut in ODI format.
