India vs South Africa : Five Records that were made in the first Test Match

India won the first test match against South Africa by a margin of 203 runs and got the lead in the three-match test series. Apart from the huge margin of victory, this match will also be remembered for the records that were made during the match.

Below are the five records that have been made in the first Test Match:

Rohit Sharma's twin centuries in his first match as an opener 

Rohit scored 176 and 124 in the first and second inning respectively. It is the first instance in the Test Cricket history where a batsman has scored 100+ score in their first match as an opener. Before this match, Rohit had three hundreds in 47 innings but with these tons, he proved that he can be a successful test opener.

Rohit Sharma's 13 sixes in a Test Match

Rohit hit 13 sixes in the match and surpassed the record of the highest number of sixes in a Test Match. This record was previously held by Wasim Akram, who hit 12-sixes against Zimbabwe in 1996. 

 Ravichandran Ashwin is joint fastest to 350 Test wickets :

After dismissing Theunis de Bruyn in South Africa's second inning, Ashwin became the joint-fastest bowler to take 350 Test wickets (66 matches). He equalled the record of legendary Sri Lanka spinner, Muttiah Muralitharan. The Indian off-spinner took 8 wickets in the match, including a seven wicket haul in South Africa's first inning.

Dane Piedt became the fourth player to score a half-century at number ten position vs India in India :

While all the front line batsmen were struggling against India's bowling attack in the second inning of the Test match, Piedt scored a gritty half-century and became just the fourth player to achieve the feat of scoring 50+ score against India in India batting at tenth position. He scored 56 runs in 107 balls which included nine fours and a six.

Ravindra Jadeja became the quickest to reach 200-wickets among left-arm bowlers

After scalping the wicket of Dean Elgar on day three, Jadeja reached the milestone of 200 test wickets and became the quickest left-arm bowler to achieve this feat. Before him, Rangana Herath held this record in 47 matches. The left-arm spinner took six wickets in the match and also scored 40-quick runs in the second inning.
