IPL 2023 Recap: Top Five Unforgettable Moments

IPL 2023 was one of the most memorable seasons in the history of the cash-rich league. Of course, there was the final rescheduled to the reserve day for the first time in 16 years, but there were numerous other memorable moments that will leave a lasting impact on both players and fans.

Here are five unforgettable moments of IPL 2023

1. Sunil Gavaskar taking MS Dhoni’s autograph

Sunil Gavaskar is an Indian cricketing great, but such is MS Dhoni’s admiration that he even leapt at the opportunity to get ‘Captain Cool’s’ autograph. After winning the final league stage match against KKR, CSK took a lap of honor around Chepauk. Sunil Gavaskar, who was engaged in a post-match presentation, rushed to Dhoni when he saw him come close and took his autograph.

2. Ravindra Jadeja’s final finish

Ravindra Jadeja found himself at the crease at the fag end of the nail-biting final. 10 runs in two balls separated Chennai Super Kings from a fifth IPL title. Jadeja, known for his calm under pressure, sent the first ball for a six and followed it up with a smart boundary to turn the game around.

3. Rinku Singh’s five sixes in a row

Kolkata Knight Riders batter Rinku Singh pulled off an apparently impossible task by hitting five consecutive sixes to chase 29 runs in the final over against Gujarat Titans. It was not a one-off burst, Rinku was very consistent throughout the tournament and ended as the highest scorer for KKR, despite batting in the lower order only. Many veterans were impressed by his consistent form, predicting his selection to the Indian T20 squad was imminent.

4. Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir faceoff

Royal Challengers Bangalore’s star player Virat Kohli and the Lucknow Super Giants mentor Gautam Gambhir had a potent faceoff after the second RCB vs LSG league stage match, costing both 100 per cent of their match fee. The disagreement arose during the second innings of the match when Kohli had an argument with LSG's Naveen-ul-Haq. During the post-match handshake, both individuals briefly met face-to-face, and stopped only shy of a brawl.

After being separated, an LSG player was discussing with Kohli about the situation. Gautam Gambhir's confrontation with Kohli led to an ugly situation which overshadowed the cricket.

5. Akash Madhwal’s fifer against LSG

On May 24, 2023, Mumbai Indians defeated the Lucknow Super Giants in the eliminator. MI, batting first, managed to generate a competitive total of 182 runs. In response, LSG could bring their chase to a modest 101. MI's new bowling sensation, Akash Madhwal, led the collapse of LSG by striking five wickets and conceding just five runs in 3.3 overs. Playing his debut season, Akash played only eight matches and picked up 14 wickets at an average of 15.64.
