Juventus planning £150 million bid for Virgil van Dijk
Juventus are reportedly planning to go to Liverpool with a huge bid for their centre back Virgil van Dijk. The former Celtic defender has played a key role in the Reds' resurgence in European football.
Liverpool are certainly not thinking about selling van Dijk at this point of time, but it is believed that Juventus would offer them an amount which would be difficult to turn down.
The amount that Juventus have planned to put on the table is believed to be a little over €178 million (£150 million).
Harry Maguire currently holds the moniker of the world's most expensive defender. Manchester United paid £80 million to bring him in from Leicester City in 2019.
If Juventus does pay £150 million for van Dijk, it will be an astronomical amount for a defender.
As far as van Dijk’s personal aspirations are concerned, he has already become a European champion with Liverpool and in all likelihood, is also going to win the 2019-2020 Premier League title.
The 28-year old also won the Club World Cup earlier in the ongoing season. So, he wouldn’t have much to achieve with Liverpool once the 2019-20 season is over.
Juventus, on the other hand, have not won the Champions League for a few years and their defense is one of the main reasons why they have failed to excel in Europe in the recent times.
They have identified van Dijk as someone who can tighten their defense and the Dutchman personally might also like to take up a different challenge moving ahead. It will be really interesting to see how the whole situation pans out.
Van Dijk has so far played 106 matches for Liverpool out of which 77 have been in the Premier League. The 28-year old has scored eight Premier League goals for the Reds as well.
