Frank Lampard in discussions with Chelsea board to offload Kepa

When Frank Lampard did not pick his first choice shot-stopper Kepa Arrizabalaga for the highly important Premier League game against Leicester City last weekend, he did not try to hide the fact that it was down to Kepa’s form and nothing else.

Lampard had already hinted after the London derby that he was not pleased with the performance of the Spaniard.

The Chelsea goalkeeper made some glaring errors in important games in the Premier League this season, none bigger than the error that he committed against the arch rivals Arsenal.

He allowed the Arsenal skipper Hector Bellerin to score the equalizer by staying at the near post while he was supposed to move to the far post.

Lampard had insisted after that game that Kepa would himself admit that he had not been flawless between the sticks in the ongoing season.

“Kepa will be honest there have been some mistakes that have cost us goals.” Lampard had told the reporters.

The Spaniard was pretty decent the previous season which was his first season at Chelsea and as a result of his performances in his debut season, he started as the first choice goalie under the new boss Frank Lampard as well.

However, not only has he lost his no. 1 spot now, the reports have emerged that Lampard doesn’t see a future for Kepa at Chelsea at all.

The reports suggest  that Lampard has been in talks with the Blues hierarchy to sell the Spaniard so that he could buy Nick Pope who currently features for Burnley.

While Lampard reportedly wants to offload the Spaniard, not everyone in the Chelsea hierarchy is on the same page with him.

It is understood that Marina Granovskaia , who directs the transfer operations of Chelsea, is not liking the fact that the manager is willing to look beyond a player who was bought at a huge amount and was also given a long term contract upon his arrival, citing his ability and reputation.
