Miami Open 2022: Hubert Hurkacz vs Carlos Alcaraz: Head-to-Head Prediction

The semi-finals of the Miami Masters 1000 are all set to take center stage on Friday (April 1) as Poland's Hubert Hurkacz will take on Spain's Carlos Alcaraz. 

The two will battle out for a place in the final on Sunday at the Miami Open, while Hurkacz will be at the top his confidence having beaten No.1 seed, Daniil Medvedev, in the quarter-final whereas Alcaraz struggled in the quarter-final Miomir Kecmanovic, who had defeated Indian Wells champion Taylor Fritz.

This will be the first time that the pair will shake hands as they have never met in any previous affairs. 

However, in head-to-head comparisons, Alcaraz has been on a giant-killing form having beaten the likes of French Open runners-up Stefanos Tsistipas and former US Open champion Marin Cilic on his way to the final. 

Defending champion, Hurkacz on the flip side was in total command against US Open champion Daniil Medvedev as he rushed him aside 7-6, 6-3. 

Considering the numbers game, it will be tough to pick either of those two players as they have a sense of unpredictability in them.

Match Preview & Analysis

Alcaraz has been in great touch since the start of the ATP tour, his double-handed backhand returns have been a treat to watch throughout the tournament. His baseline play along with his serve gives him the extra edge, which at times troubles the opposition. 

The 18-year-old has the ability to play against the wind in testing conditions of Miami which has proved a good asset to have in your arsenal.

Hurkacz, 25, has been knocking on the doors of big tournament wins for a long time and this could be a perfect opportunity for him to stamp his authority on the pitch. 

Poland's reliable tennis machine, Hurkacz has spent more than seven hours on the court during the Miami Open and has dropped only one set throughout the tournament. 

However, compared to his opponent Alcaraz, he should be fresh as his quarter-final encounter lasted 89 minutes compared to Alcaraz who spent almost two and a half hours on court against Kecmanovic, winning by 6-7, 6-3, 7-6.

Record in 2022

Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz has made it to back-to-back major semi-finals as he lost to his compatriot, Rafael Nadal, at Indian Wells. The defeat was one of only two in the calendar year for 18-year-old Alcaraz. 

His record in 2022 is astonishing as he has lost only two matches; the other defeat was a five-set thriller against Matteo Berrettini at the Australian Open.

Hurkacz, 25, has also impressed in the early parts of the year having won 14 matches on the tour this season. 

He lost in the quarter-final of the Indian Wells to Andrey Rublev who also beat him in the Dubai Open semi-final. While the Miami Open title in 2021 remains his only ATP 1000 title at a major tournament.
