Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard signs a new deal with Rangers
Steven Gerrard has signed a new deal with Rangers that will keep him at the Ibrox till 2024.
The former Liverpool skipper has made a name for himself in the second innings of his career, with the Gers happy that Gerrard has shown further commitment to the club.
Rangers were a shadow of their previous selves before the arrival of the Englishman in the hot seat. However, since the former Reds’ skipper came in as the manager, Rangers have improved to a great extent and are challenging local rivals Celtic for the title this season.
Under Gerrard, the Gers have been impressive in Europe as well. They have made it to the knockout stages of the Europa League this season.
The kind of impact Gerrard has had at Ibrox in such a short span of time has not gone unnoticed, as he has been linked with high profile jobs like Arsenal.
Gerrard led Rangers to a second place finish in the Scottish Premiership and the Europa League group-stages in his first season at the club. The blue half of Glasgow are second in the league this season as well, just two points behind Celtic who beat them in the League Cup final.
Gerrard stated that, "When [chairman] Dave King approached me about the possibility of extending my contract, it was a very easy decision to make because I am very happy and feel that we are building something special together at the club. I would like to thank the board for the backing they have given me already in my time at the club and also most importantly, the Rangers fans who have given me and the team such tremendous backing both this season and last."
His assistant Gary McAllister, along with coaches Michael Beale, Tom Culshaw, Colin Stewart, Jordan Milsom, Mark Waller, Scott Mason and Graeme Stevenson have also renewed their contracts. This will be a real positive sign for the club moving forward.
King further added that since the moment he met the former England international, he knew Gerrad was the right man for the job. He further added that he was happy with the work that was being put in at the club.
The work Gerrard has been doing at Rangers is really impressive and he deserves all the plaudits for it. Rangers have become much more competitive since the 39-year-old arrived at the club and it is a big statement by the club to reward the manager for the amazing work he is doing.
