Trent Boult back in the New Zealand squad for Test series against India
New Zealand have called up the young fast bowler Kyle Jamieson for the upcoming Test series against India.
Jamieson made his international debut in the recently concluded ODI series against India and looked very impressive. The 25-year old bowled with decent pace, but it was the movement he generated off the pitch, which created trouble for the Indian batsmen.
Because of Jamieson’s height, the Indian batsmen were a little reluctant to commit on the front foot, anticipating a short ball all the time, but the Kiwi bowled full and got the ball to nip after pitching. Since the batsmen were hanging back, they were not in the right position to tackle the movement of the ball.
The New Zealand team management would want the pacer to do more of the same in the Test matches as well, if he plays.
New Zealand's premier fast bowler Trent Boult is also back in the Test squad, after a bit of a layoff due to injury. He will share the new ball with Tim Southee upfront.
Since the Indian batting line-up has got a lot of right-handers, Boult might be a handful for the Blackcaps as he will get the ball to swing into the right-handers.
The left-arm spinner Mitchell Santner, who struggled a great deal in Australia, has been dropped from the Test squad and is replaced by another left arm spinner Ajaz Patel.
Santner was criticized for bowling in "limited-overs style" in the Test matches in Australia, not trying to turn the ball a lot and just firing it into the right-handers, making it easy for them to rotate the strike.
Ajaz is more conventional in terms of his bowling style and the New Zealand selectors believe he is better suited to the Test cricket as compared to Santner who remains a vital part of New Zealand’s limited-overs set-up.
Here is New Zealand’s squad for the Test series against India:
Kane Williamson (C), Tom Latham, Tom Blundell, Ross Taylor, Henry Nicholls, BJ Watling, Colin de Grandhomme, Tim Southee, Neil Wagner, Trent Boult, Ajaz Patel, Kyle Jamieson, Daryl Mitchell
