Sir Alex Ferguson happy with Manchester United handing chances to youngsters

Former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson believes Manchester United's philosophy of bringing young players through has helped Brandon Williams, Mason Greenwood and Scott McTominay develop 'exceptionally well'. 

The 78-year-old, who managed the Red Devils for 27 long years, was himself famous for handing opportunities to the young players during his time at the club. 

The famous Class of '92 of Manchester United only became successful thanks to the Scotsman, who had an immense belief in his young players. 

David Beckham, Nicky Butt, Ryan Giggs, Gary Neville, Phil Neville and Paul Scholes were together known as the class of '92 and they played a key role in helping the Red Devils rise to unparalleled success over the years. 

Ferguson is pleased that the club have stuck with that ethos despite his departure, providing opportunities for the new generation of talent to come through. 

He said: "I think it is an area in which United have always done well (giving kids a chance), giving young players an opportunity and often they show that if you do that then they won't let you down. 

"They've shown that, like the boy Brandon Williams and Greenwood and McTominay, they've done exceptionally well." 

Scott McTominay has featured in the majority of Manchester United's matches so far this season and has become one of the first names on the team sheet for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side. 

He has been the best midfielder for the Red Devils this season in the absence of Paul Pogba, which is a great advertisement for the young players of the academy. 

Meanwhile, Greenwood has scored 10 Premier League goals since getting his chance to make his mark during the 2018/19 campaign. 

Brandan Williams, meanwhile, is the latest youngster to be given an opportunity by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and the youngster has featured 16 times already since August. 

Even before Solskjaer, the club handed opportunities to the young players emerging from the academy. The biggest example of that is none other than Marcus Rashford who has been the shining light despite the inconsistency of the Red Devils.
