Crisis-ridden Bayern Munich host Werder Bremen
Bayern Munich’s domestic season this time around has not been as comfortable as they usually have been in recent seasons.
Since they lost out twice against Borussia Dortmund for the title earlier this decade when Jurgen Klopp was in charge, they have hardly had to fight for their dominance in Germany.
However, their monopoly looks under considerable threat this time out as the Bavarian giants are going through a phase of crisis and a host of clubs looks to be capitalizing on that.
Their form has hardly improved following the sacking of Niko Kovac as the serial Bundesliga winners sit seventh in the table after 14 games.
Borussia Monchengladbach are leading Bayern by seven points and sit at the top of table. After many years, it seems that we will finally get to see a proper title race in Bundesliga and as many as seven teams are in it contention at the moment.
Bayern suffered their fourth loss already in Bundesliga this season against Borussia Monchengladbach. They lost once again from an winning position and it will certainly worry the fans.
There was a general consensus that Hans-Dieter Flick would manage the club for the rest of the season as the care-taker manager and Bayern will consider their future plans seeing how much he delivers. Although, things are seemingly going out of hand and the board might have to react earlier than expected.
Bayern will face 14th placed Werder Bremen in the Bundesliga today and will be keen to get back to winning ways. Bremen have been pretty poor this season but their confidence will be high after a 2-3 win against rivals Wolfsburg.
The hosts, before their Bundesliga encounter against Werder Bremen, were up against an in-form Spurs side in their final group stage game of the Champions League. They demolished Spurs and played with confidence which was reminiscent of the old Bayern Munich.
Injury-problems to yet again haunt Bayern?
Bayern are in a dismal run of form in the league and to make things worse, they are being seriously tested by injuries. A host of key players are out with injuries and Bayern must find a solution to deal with it.
The Bayern defence looks the most affected by injuries. Niklas Sule is not expected to feature for them any more this season following a cruciate ligament rupture. Sule is Bayern’s stellar performer in defence and the leader of their back-line and without him, their struggles in defence could continue.
Jerome Boateng had to be withdrawn during the game against Borussia Monchengladbach having suffered an injury and he could also miss the game.
Meanwhile, Javi Martinez is also unavailable for selection having picked up double yellow cards in the last game. Lucas Hernandez, who can play either as a left-back or a centre-back is also missing with an injury.
Outside that, there are few other absentees with injuries as well. Corentin Tolisso is a doubt for the game and young striker Fiete Arp could also be missing with an arm injury.
