Schmeichel openly questions the referee as Leicester were thumped by Liverpool

Leicester City were handed a shocking yet well deserved 4-0 defeat by Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool. 

The second-placed Foxes were defeated comfortably by the Premier League leaders. The match saw Liverpool going in front through Roberto Firmino’s first-half header.

In the second half, Liverpool scored thrice in seven minutes, with the first of those goals coming from a debatable penalty. Referee Michael Oliver awarded a spot-kick to the Reds after Caglar Soyuncu leaned into the ball and it struck his arm following a Trent Alexander-Arnold corner.

Leicester keeper Kasper Schmeichel was visibly very disappointed and affected by the referee’s decision. When Schmeichel was asked whether the final score was a fair reflection of Leicester’s performance, he said,” I think it was a bit rough. We were in the game until the referee had to make himself a hero.”

“From then on we lost our composure. They’re the best side in the world at the moment, along with Manchester City, and I think it’s important for us not to lose sight of the big picture. We are very early into our journey. Man City, Liverpool, these are the type of teams we strive to be like but they’re a lot further down the line in their development than we are.”

He also took a dig at the former Premier League referee Dermot Gallagher by saying that Gallagher will be on Sky Sports saying it’s a great decision or the referee was brave. He also showed his concern about the referee's decision making.

Schmeichel was fuming and it did not feel like he was stopping anytime soon. “Once he gives it, he’s desperate to give, it looks like once he gives it VAR’s never going to turn it over,” he added. 

The 2015-16 titleholders made a brilliant start to the season. However, a realistic title challenge appears unlikely following two defeats to the Reds and Manchester City in quick succession.
